Jesse Tyma, DVM
DIPLOMATE OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF VETERINARY SURGEONS
CERTIFICATION IN VETERINARY ACUPUNCTURE
Dr. Tyma grew up in New Hope, Pennsylvania, and completed her undergraduate education at Amherst College before earning her veterinary degree from Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating internship at Rhinebeck Equine, followed by a large animal surgical residency at the University of Georgia. In 2019, she became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Large Animal).
After several years in private practice in New Jersey, Dr. Tyma returned to Rhinebeck Equine in 2023. She brings broad experience across racing and performance disciplines, with clinical interests that include gastrointestinal and soft tissue surgery, emergency and critical care, management of angular limb deformities in foals, wound reconstruction and chronic wound care, sports medicine, and disorders of the axial skeleton. She is also certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Tyma enjoys managing complex cases and values a thoughtful, team-based approach to care, working closely with the Rhinebeck Equine clinical team, clients, and referring veterinarians to develop practical, individualized treatment plans and optimize patient outcomes.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Tyma is an active leader within the equine veterinary community. She serves as Chair of the AAEP Early Career Committee and is a Decade One and Starting Gate group facilitator. She previously served on the AAEP Internship Sub-Committee of the Sustainability Initiative. Through these roles, she is committed to mentorship, collaboration, and supporting a strong, sustainable future for equine veterinary medicine—efforts that directly enhance the care provided to horses and their owners.
Outside of practice, Dr. Tyma enjoys CrossFit, hiking, downhill skiing, and time spent in serene outdoor settings. She also loves doting on her trio of orange cats and pair of miniature horses, baking, solving the NY Times daily puzzles, and cheering on Philadelphia sports teams. Go birds!
